Occitanie - Holiday homes Aude

The Aude has a variety of landscapes: hills, rivers, vineyards but also olive trees and cypresses. It smells like pine, thyme, rosemary and oak. Take your walking shoes and head out for a hike during your holiday in Aude.

The famous Carcassonne is the capital of the department and is located in the hilly landscape of the Pyrenees. The medieval fortress of the town is completely preserved and very popular among tourists. Carcassonne consists of two parts: the fortified city la Cité and the lower city la Bastide Saint Louis.

The "Carcassonne" and the "Canal du Midi" are on the UNESCO list of world heritage and worth visiting. In addition, it is recommended to visit the Castle of the Counts and theater. Stroll through the medieval streets, through charming squares with terraces where it is gorgeous. Also try a typical French dish: the Cassoulet!

A nice experience is a boat trip on the Canal du Midi. This channel has long been used as a trade route but now also the pleasure boats found their way. This place is quiet and relacing with banks surrounded by poplars. Further downstream, you will pass through ancient villages such as Saint Martin Lalande, Labastide d'Anjou and Mas Saintes Puelles.

The seaside resort of Gruissan extends over a length of 17 kilometres. The blue sea contrasts well against the green of the massif. Gruissan is also known for its salt production. A holiday rental in Aude is also an excellent base to visit Castelnaudary. You will find the old town with beautiful houses, the mill Cugarel and of course the port. At Lastrours, four large castle ruins are worth visiting. In Limoux, the Pont Neuf and Notre Dame de Marseille are recommended.
