Sights in the Ardennes

During your holidays in the Ardennes, it is highly recommended to visit Givet, Sedan and Charleville-Mézières. In the attractive town of Givet has the impressive Fortress of Charlemont. This 16th century fortress was built by Charles V and fortified by Vauban in the 17th century. Discover the original fortifications and bastions, the stunning views from this high fort alone are more than worth the effort. In Sedan you can visit the largest fort in Europe, with a surface of 35,000 m², built nearly six centuries ago. Wander here along the ramparts and follow in the footsteps of the Princes de la Tour d'Auvergne and the la Marck.

From your holiday Grand-Est you also get to know the capital of the department, Charleville-Mezieres. The old Mezieres is separated from the younger Charleville by the river Meuse. Special attractions in this city include Place Ducale, the Ardennes Museum and the clock of the Grand Marionettiste. Charleville-Mézièress is also known as the “puppets“ capital. Once every two years the famous "Festival Mondial des Théâtres the Marionnettes" place.
